Mulengism
What is Mulengism?
Mulengism is the guiding philosophy developed by MPS that promotes the heroic spirit, love, dignity, and moral values of the ancient Banyamulenge. It calls on every Munyamulenge—no matter where they live—to live with courage, truth, humility, and pride in their identity. Mulengism seeks to preserve the cultural roots of the Banyamulenge by reviving and applying the positive values of their ancestors in today’s world.
The Pillars of Mulengism
1. Ancestral Pride and Identity
In Mulengism, we believe it is important to know who we are and where we come from. We are proud of the Banyamulenge ancestors who lived with courage, respect, and strong values. They were known for being honest, humble, respectful, and willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones. They were not ashamed of themselves, their culture, or their language — and neither should we be. Mulengism teaches that being a Munyamulenge today means more than just being born into the tribe — it means carrying that same spirit everywhere we go. Mulengism encourages every Munyamulenge to carry that same pride and spirit, no matter where they live today. Remembering our roots gives us strength and helps us stay united as a people. Our identity is rooted in our history and in the examples set by our elders. Through Mulengism, we choose to live with pride in our name, our past, and our mission to protect our heritage.
2. Community and Solidarity
In Mulengism, we believe that no one succeeds alone. The strength of each Munyamulenge is connected to the strength of the whole community. Our ancestors lived closely with one another, shared what they had, and stood together during hard times. Helping each other was not just kindness — it was a way of life. Today, Mulengism reminds us to support one another wherever we live, whether in Congo or abroad. We also welcome people from all communities, races, ethnic groups, and nationalities who share these same values of unity, humanity and care for one another, we are different organs but one body.
3. Moral Character and Dignity
Mulengism teaches that who you are on the inside matters just as much as what you do on the outside. We believe in living with truth, courage, humility, and respect — just like our ancestors did. The ancient Banyamulenge were known as people of their word. They stood for what was right, even when it cost them something. They were calm, strong, generous, and willing to sacrifice themselves for their families and community. In Mulengism, we carry that same moral strength and dignity into our lives today. No matter where we live or what we face, we must live with honor and show good character in all we do.
4. Resistance and Empowerment
Mulengism was born in a time of deep pain and struggle for the Banyamulenge people. War, persecution, and displacement were destroying our culture, language, and unity. But instead of giving up, we chose to resist in a peaceful and powerful way — by protecting who we are. Mulengism teaches that even in suffering, we can rise with dignity and strength. We are not victims; we are survivors and builders. Every Munyamulenge is called to stand up, stay proud, and take action to protect their identity. Through education, unity, and cultural pride, we rebuild what was broken and empower the next generation to walk forward with confidence.
5. Transmission to the Next Generation
Mulengism believes it is very important to pass down our culture, values, and language to the young people. We teach children through stories, education, and cultural traditions so they understand who they are and where they come from. This helps them carry the spirit of the ancient Banyamulenge into the future. No matter where a Munyamulenge lives in the world, they should know and live by these important values. By sharing our history and language with the next generation, we keep our identity alive and strong. Mulengism encourages every young person to take pride in their roots and continue the legacy of their ancestors. This way, our culture will not be lost but will grow and thrive with each new generation.
